Hearing the Gospel: Kid's Devotional
5-Day Devotional: Growing God’s Garden
Day 1: The Mystery of God's Garden
Reading: Genesis 1:26-31; 2:8-15
Devotional: Imagine being picked to be God’s helper in the biggest, most beautiful garden ever! From the very beginning, that is exactly what God made you to do. He made you in His image, which means you are like a mirror meant to show the world how awesome, kind, and creative God is.
Even though sin came into the world and messed things up, God never gave up on His garden project. Through Jesus, He is fixing what was broken. Every day, the choices you make, the way you treat your friends, and how you help others are ways you can bring God's beauty into the world.
Day 2: Friends Who Never Left
Reading: Luke 8:1-3; John 20:1-18
Devotional: Mary Magdalene and a group of other amazing women followed Jesus everywhere. When things got scary and Jesus' disciples ran away, these women stayed right by His side. Why? Because Jesus had totally changed their lives and saved them.
They didn't follow Jesus just because they felt like they *had* to, or to look good in front of others. They did it because they were bursting with thankfulness! When obeying God feels like a boring chore, stop and remember how much He loves you. He forgave you and invited you to be part of His family. Let thankfulness, not guilt, be your superpower today!
Day 3: The Hardened Heart
Reading: Ezekiel 36:25-27; Hebrews 3:12-15
Devotional: Have you ever tried to plant a seed on a dirt path that has been stepped on a million times? The ground is as hard as a rock! The seed just sits on top, and the wind blows it away. Sometimes, our hearts can get like that dirt path. If we hear God's Word over and over but don't really listen, our hearts can get hardened.
If praying feels boring or you just don't seem to care about God’s rules, it’s time to ask for help. Only God can break up that hard rock heart and give you a soft, living heart that loves Him.
Day 4: What is Choking Your Garden?
Reading: Matthew 13:22; 1 John 2:15-17
Devotional: Imagine a cool little plant trying to grow, but suddenly a bunch of sharp, ugly weeds and thorns wrap around it and choke it out. That's what happens when we let other things become more important to us than God.
Thorns can be worries, or they can be good things that we care *too* much about—like video games, sports, being popular, or toys. When playing a game or doing a hobby becomes more important than loving God and treating others well, those are weeds. Jesus wants you to pull those weeds out by the roots so you have plenty of room to grow!
Day 5: Growing Fruit Takes Time
Reading: John 15:1-8; Galatians 5:22-25
Devotional: An apple tree doesn't grow a big, juicy apple five minutes after it's planted. It takes time, sunshine, water, and deep roots. Your life with God is the same way!
When you listen to God and keep following Him even when it's hard, you are growing deep roots. Soon, beautiful "fruit" will start to show up in your life—things like love, joy, peace, and patience. God wants your life to shine bright like a flashlight, showing everyone how good He is. Stick close to Jesus every single day, and He will help you grow into an amazing fruit-bearing tree!
